What is Matsyakarula Sevalo?

Every year, fishing in the sea is banned for 61 days, from 15 April to 14 June, so that fish can breed. Fishermen families lose their income during this time. Under Matsyakarula Sevalo (the fishing ban relief, earlier called Matsyakara Bharosa), the Andhra Pradesh government pays ₹20,000 to each eligible family. The amount was ₹10,000 under the previous government and was doubled by the present government.
