What is Dr NTR Vaidya Seva?

Dr NTR Vaidya Seva is run by the Dr NTR Vaidya Seva Trust of the Andhra Pradesh government. It was renamed from Dr YSR Aarogyasri in 2024. Cover was raised to ₹25 lakh per family per year from December 2023. Treatment is cashless: the family does not pay for covered procedures at network (empanelled) hospitals. It works together with the Centre's Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY.

New universal health policy: approved, start not confirmed

  • In September 2025 the State Cabinet approved a universal health policy: an insurance company would pay the first ₹2.5 lakh of treatment, and the NTR Vaidya Seva Trust would pay from ₹2.5 lakh up to ₹25 lakh, for 3,257 procedures, with approvals within six hours of admission.
  • The Chief Minister said it would start on 1 April 2026. As of 15 October 2026 we could not find an official confirmation that the new insurance system has started. Private hospitals have also protested over pending dues and have at times suspended services.
  • Until the new system is confirmed, use your existing health card and the network hospital's Aarogyamitra desk.

Who is eligible?

  • Poor (BPL) families in Andhra Pradesh, generally rice card families with a Vaidya Seva / health card.
  • The universal policy is meant to cover about 5 crore people in the state once it starts; check with your secretariat for current enrolment.

How to get treatment

  1. Go to a network hospital (government or empanelled private) with your health card or Aadhaar and rice card.
  2. Meet the Aarogyamitra at the hospital's NTR Vaidya Seva desk. They register you and send the request for approval.
  3. After approval, treatment, medicines and stay for the covered procedure are free.
  4. If a hospital asks you to pay for a covered procedure, call 104 or complain to the Trust.
You don't need to pay anyone to get a health card or treatment approved. Beware of agents.
