What is e-Shram?

e-Shram is the Ministry of Labour & Employment's national database of unorganised workers. Each registered worker gets an e-Shram card with a Universal Account Number (UAN) that works across India. More than 31 crore workers had registered by January 2026.

Benefits

  • A one-stop link to social security and welfare schemes. Many central schemes are linked to the portal, such as PM Shram Yogi Maandhan pension, PMSBY accident insurance, PM SVANidhi and more.
  • Accident cover: through PMSBY, ₹2 lakh for accidental death or permanent disability and ₹1 lakh for partial disability. The portal also handles ex-gratia claims for eligible accident cases. Check the current terms on the portal before claiming.
  • Helps the government reach workers quickly during emergencies and with new schemes, including social security for gig and platform workers under the Code on Social Security (in force from 21 November 2025).
  • The card has no expiry. Keep your details (mobile, occupation, bank) updated.
