Gruha Jyothi Free Electricity (Telangana)

Gruha Jyothi is the Telangana government's free electricity scheme. Eligible households that use up to 200 units of electricity in a month get a zero bill for that month.

What is Gruha Jyothi?

Gruha Jyothi is one of the Telangana government's guarantees. Under G.O.Ms.No.7 (Energy) dated 26 February 2024, eligible households get free domestic electricity of up to 200 units a month. Zero bills have been issued from March 2024. The government pays the electricity companies (DISCOMs) for these bills.

Benefits

If your household uses 200 units or less in a month, you get a zero bill for that month.
The benefit is for one domestic service connection per household.

If you use more than 200 units in a month, you get a normal bill for that month. Keep an eye on usage in summer when fans, coolers and ACs push consumption up.

Who is eligible?

Households that applied through Praja Palana (or another approved channel) and are entered in the Praja Palana portal.
A valid Food Security Card (white ration card) linked with Aadhaar.
A domestic electricity service connection number linked to the application.

Tenants

Tenants can also benefit. The bill stays in the name of the original connection holder (the electricity company does not change the name for this scheme), but the household's white ration card is linked to that connection.

Important rules

Only for domestic use. Using it for a shop or business is an offence under the Electricity Act.
Only one connection per household gets the benefit.

Not getting a zero bill?

Check that your Praja Palana application included Gruha Jyothi and your service connection number.
Make sure your white ration card and Aadhaar are linked correctly.
Visit your mandal / municipal office or your electricity company's (DISCOM) section office with your ration card, Aadhaar and electricity bill to get it corrected.
