Kalyana Lakshmi & Shaadi Mubarak (Telangana)
Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak are Telangana government schemes that give ₹1,00,116 once for the marriage of a girl from a poor family. Kalyana Lakshmi is for SC, ST, BC and EBC families, and Shaadi Mubarak is for minority families. The money is paid to the bride's mother's bank account.
What are Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak?
Telangana started these schemes on 2 October 2014 so that poor families don't fall into debt for a daughter's wedding. Both give the same amount, ₹1,00,116, once per bride:
- Kalyana Lakshmi: for brides from SC, ST, BC and EBC families.
- Shaadi Mubarak: for brides from minority families.
As per the latest government order, the money is credited to the bride's mother's bank account.
Latest update (2026)
- In August 2026, a single judge of the Telangana High Court put the schemes on hold on a petition questioning them. On 1 September 2026, a Division Bench headed by the Chief Justice stayed that order, so the schemes continue.
- MLAs were still handing over Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak cheques in October 2026, but many families report long waits. Opposition leaders say about two lakh applications are pending; the government has not given an official figure.
Who is eligible?
- The bride's family must live in Telangana.
- The bride must be 18 or older on the wedding day (the groom 21 or older).
- It is for the bride's first marriage, and each bride can get it only once.
