Mahalakshmi Scheme (Telangana)
Mahalakshmi is a Telangana government scheme for women. Its two main benefits now running are free travel for women and girls in TGSRTC buses across the state, and LPG cooking gas cylinders at ₹500 for eligible families.
What is Mahalakshmi?
Mahalakshmi is one of the Telangana government's guarantees for women, launched in December 2023. Two parts are running today. A third part, ₹2,500 per month for women, has been announced but has not been started as of 2026.
1. Free bus travel
- Women, girls and transgender persons who live in Telangana can travel free in TGSRTC buses within the state.
- Free travel applies to ordinary services such as Palle Velugu, Express and city ordinary/express buses. AC, luxury and similar premium services are generally not included.
- Show your original Aadhaar card or another government ID with a Telangana address to the conductor to get a zero-fare ticket. Photocopies are not accepted.
Mahalakshmi smart card
From 2 June 2026, the government began issuing Mahalakshmi smart cards for free travel, first on a pilot basis in one mandal per district before expanding statewide. Until the card reaches you, Aadhaar or other government ID continues to work.
- Apply at MeeSeva centres or TGSRTC bus pass counters.
- Bring your Aadhaar card, a passport-size photo and your mobile number.
- A nominal fee of ₹50 is charged for the card.
2. LPG cylinder at ₹500
- Eligible families pay an effective price of ₹500 per domestic LPG cylinder. The state government pays the rest as a subsidy credited to the bank account.
- To be eligible, you should have applied under Praja Palana, hold a white ration card (food security card), and have an active domestic gas connection in your name.
- The number of subsidised cylinders per year is based on your household's average use over the last three years.
3. ₹2,500 per month for women
This part of Mahalakshmi was promised but, according to news reports up to 2026, it has not been implemented yet. Be careful of anyone asking you to "register" or pay for it. We will update this page if the government starts it.
