Kisan Credit Card (KCC)
The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) gives farmers, fish farmers and livestock farmers a crop loan from the bank at low interest: 7% a year, which comes down to 4% if you repay on time. Loans up to ₹2 lakh need no collateral.
What is the Kisan Credit Card?
The KCC is a credit card and loan account from banks for farmers' short-term needs: seeds, fertiliser, pesticides, labour and post-harvest costs, plus some household needs. Since 2018-19 it also covers animal husbandry (dairy, poultry, goats) and fisheries. You get a RuPay card and can withdraw as needed up to your limit.
Interest and limits
- Under the government's Modified Interest Subvention Scheme (MISS), short-term loans up to ₹3 lakh are given at 7% interest.
- If you repay on time, you get a 3% prompt repayment incentive, so the effective interest is 4%.
- For animal husbandry and fisheries, the subsidised interest applies up to ₹2 lakh.
- The Union Budget 2025-26 announced raising the MISS limit from ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh. Ask your bank how much of your loan currently gets the subsidised rate.
- From 1 January 2025, banks can give farm loans up to ₹2 lakh without collateral (no land mortgage or guarantor).
Who can get a KCC?
- Farmers who own land, and also tenant farmers, oral lessees and sharecroppers.
- Self-help groups and joint liability groups of farmers.
- Fish farmers, fishermen and livestock / poultry farmers.
- PM-KISAN beneficiaries can get a KCC more easily, as banks hold special KCC drives for them.
Documents usually needed
- KCC application form (from the bank or PM-KISAN portal)
- Aadhaar and a photo
- Land records (pattadar passbook / 1-B / Adangal) or tenancy agreement / CCRC (AP) for tenants
- Crop details, or details of animals / fish ponds for allied activities
How to apply
- Visit your bank branch (public, private, regional rural or cooperative bank), or download the KCC form from the PM-KISAN portal.
- Submit the form with your documents. Banks are expected to decide within about 14 days.
- The bank fixes your limit based on your crops and land, and gives you a RuPay KCC. The card is valid for 5 years and is reviewed every year.
- Repay on or before the due date to get the 4% rate and keep your limit active.
Crops financed through a KCC loan are covered under PM Fasal Bima Yojana where the state runs it, unless you opt out.
